According to Cornell University, Studies report that 80 percent of 76 older mothers admitted to having favorites amongst their adult children. Interestingly enough, 80 percent of the children knew as well that within their family there was a favorite sibling. In the first studies 30 elderly mothers and 46 middle aged mothers of adult children were interviewed. Mothers are influenced by how the child fits in society. The factors being the child's gender, martial status, parental status and education. Further research will be attempted with a much greater group of 600 parents, including fathers.
The relation between this research and Frankenstein is that a child most likely understands the level of connection as much as the parent. The creature is clearly frustrated when he mentions
"Cursed, cursed creator! Why did I live? Why, in that instant, did I not extinguish the spark of existence which you had so wantonly bestowed?" (Ch. 16)
